Labradorite was first found in Labrador, Canada, where it took it's name sake. The Inuits in that region believed that labradorite held magical properties and that the stone held the aurora borealis inside of the stone. I can certainly see how one could come to that conclusion, with no two stones displaying their light in the same way.

Labradorite, physically, gets it's color from the fractures inside of the stone. So, labradorite, in it's own way, is beautiful because of the instability of it's form.
